Ericsson built the S400 as a small, semi-ruggedized LTE router for IoT devices in light industrial settings: SCADA, remote monitoring, intelligent traffic control, surveillance cameras, digital signs, and control sensors. It is compact enough for a cabinet or DIN rail and rated for hazardous locations.

Cradlepoint S400 FAQs
Is the Cradlepoint S400 rated for hazardous locations?
Yes. Ericsson certifies the S400 for UL Class I Div 2 in North America and ATEX Zone 2 in Europe, and tests it to MIL-STD-810H for shock and vibration. It operates from −20 to 60 °C (−4 to 140 °F). The housing is IP30, so plan an enclosure for wet or dusty sites. We can help spec one.
What does zero trust mean on the S400?
S400 NetCloud IoT packages include Ericsson’s zero trust security. Devices behind the router are hidden from public internet scans and can only talk to the resources you authorize, on a least-privilege basis. That protects cameras, PLCs, and sensors that can’t run security software of their own.
What’s the difference between the S400 and S450?
They share the same Cat 6 LTE modem, ports, and ratings. The S400 adds Wi-Fi 5 for local devices; the S450 has no Wi-Fi, for sites where wireless isn’t wanted or allowed, and draws a little less power.
Do I need a NetCloud subscription?
Yes. Ericsson sells the S400 as part of a NetCloud IoT package. Essentials and Essentials plus Advanced packages cover cloud management, zero trust security, support for the full term, and a limited lifetime warranty while the subscription is active. Which carriers does the S400 work with?
The S400-C6-NA is certified on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon, and supports private LTE on CBRS Band 48. Dual SIM slots let you run a primary and a backup carrier. OptConnect provides the data plans and activates the SIMs for you.
What comes in the box?
Designated S400 SKUs include a 12 VDC power supply, two cellular antennas, and one Wi-Fi antenna. A DIN rail bracket is optional. We confirm box contents and can add antennas, power, mounting, and expansion modules on your quote.
Should I choose the S400 or the S700?
Choose the S400 for hazardous-location ratings, DIN rail mounting, wide DC or PoE power, and field I/O like serial or GPIO. The Cradlepoint S700 is Ericsson’s small Cat 4 LTE router for kiosks, signage, and cameras that need Wi-Fi 6 and two GbE ports. Not sure? Ask us and we’ll recommend one.
